Workshop on the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Law in Hungary
We organised a small workshop for lead scientists from the HUN-REN Centre for Ecological Research to develop a strategy for the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Law in Hungary.
Melinda Halassy presented the known tasks related to the new regulation. The participants identified the main points where ourInstitute can take a leading role:
- assessment of baseline conditions at country level based on the results of the Nösztép project, taking into account historical loss and climate predictions
- spatial prioritisation of restoration at national level based on the Green Infrastructure and Multiple Potencial Natural Vegetation (MPNV) modelling with available climate projections
- monitoring of ecosystem status at the country scale and various biodiversity indices linked to NRL
- cross-border collaborations
- local cross-section of different restoration objectives Other points where available knowledge could be linekd to NRL are:
- open, forested and water habitats & local and traditional knowledge in
maintenance (article 4)
- floodplain restoration (article 9)
- monitoring pollinators and implementing flowerstrips in urban and agricultural landscapes (article 10, 8, 11)
- high-diversity landscape features on agricultural land and restoration of peatlands (article 11)
- continuos cover forestry and integration of conservation interventions into forest management (article 12)
